Abortion Story #350: Meredith’s abortion in Ohio

Roar will publish a first-person story about abortion, “My Abortion: A Daily Story,” every day for at least 365 days. What follows is the start of Meredith’s story. She shares about her abortion experience, feeling supported by her husband as well as clinic staff. But Meredith also talks about navigating a sense of stigma at work, and wanting to share her story to affirm experiences like her own. “I had an abortion last week. I am 34 years old and I have no children. Mine isn’t a story about a mother who already has children and doesn’t wish to have any more. It’s not a story about a woman who can’t have children due to health reasons. It’s just a story about someone who doesn’t make enough money to support a child and who doesn’t really want to support a child.

My husband and I had an accident a few weeks ago. In the morning, before he left for work, he stopped by the grocery store and picked up Plan B. I took it within 12 hours of having intercourse–early enough that it boasts a 95% effectiveness rate. I didn’t give our accident any thought after that….”
