Abortion Story #314: Anne’s abortion in New York

Roar will publish a first-person story about abortion, “My Abortion: A Daily Story,” every day for at least 365 days. Below is the beginning of Anne’s story. She reflects on seeking abortion after her emergency contraception failed. Not having insurance, Anne speaks of feeling lucky she could afford the care she needed. “It was the end of 2003 in Brooklyn, and my boyfriend and I got carried away and had sex without a condom. The next morning, I found the nearest hospital to get a prescription for the morning-after pill. Now it’s available over the counter, but it wasn’t back then, and your options were even more limited if you didn’t have insurance, which I didn’t at the time…”
