Abortion Story #274: My Abortion as a Pro-choice Muslim

Roar will publish a first-person story about abortion, “My Abortion: A Daily Story,” every day for at least 365 days. The following opening excerpt is from Iman’s story. She speaks about the process she went through making a decision to have an abortion, prompting deeper personal exploration of her strong belief in abortion rights and in her faith as a Muslim woman. “I am a Muslim woman and I chose to have an abortion. There are a few things you should know about me: I consider my religion to be the defining aspect of my life; I am an active member of my community, particularly in the area of women’s education and empowerment; and, I am a wife and mother who is nursing her baby while pursuing a post-graduate degree. I also do plan on having more children in the future, God Willing…”
