Abortion Story #200: Lena from San Diego

Roar will publish a first-person story about abortion, “My Abortion: A Daily Story,” every day for at least 365 days. Excerpted below is some of Lena’s story, who made her decision to have an abortion when she was 31. She considered her two sons in her blended family and their economic security. She shared her experience with Phoebe Zerwick of Parents magazine.

Phoebe, sharing context for readers: “…Lena hadn’t gone to college but had found a fruitful career in the mortgage-lending business; she worked late nights while her boyfriend worked days at a body shop. Together, they made enough to save for the future, with money left for dinners out…”

Lena, on her decision: “We didn’t want to start over again….I just felt like it would have been selfish, especially since we struggled when the boys were young. We were finally at a point where we weren’t struggling…”
